Slowing Down

I'm a runner....not a walker.
I love to exercise. I'm a cardio junky. If I'm not dripping with sweat...
I didn't work hard enough.
But, on this Sunday morning, I walked.
The heavens had poured out lots of rain through the night and early morning...
so, the air was crisp and clear.
I listened to mellow music on my iPod. And, after a while, I just listened to the birds, water, leaves.
I paid more attention to all the beauties blooming around me...
And the bunnies scurrying around the trail.
If I had been running, I wouldn't have seen the roley poley crawl across the sidewalk...which immediately brought me back to my childhood summers.
If I had been running, I would have noticed the duck dive underwater...but, I wouldn't have waited to see how long he stayed under...before emerging with his breakfast morsel.
(it was much longer than I thought.)
If I had been running, my hip might be a little sore right now...and, with each step, my Achilles would be making me cringe.

I still love running.
But, it feels good to slow down.
Every now and then, we need to take it down a notch.
And right now, that's exactly what I need to do.
(although, it's a little challenging for's worth it.)
